Chhavi Pokharna

Chhavi is a 10th grader at Orlando Science High School and has enjoyed math since she was really young. After joining this school in 5th grade, she was introduced to a new world of math where everything was more competitive but was full of amazing opportunities. In 4th grade, she started off with Mathleague competitions and went to Nationals in Houston. In middle school, she participated in Regional Mathcounts, Mu Alpha Theta, MOEMS, Math Kangaroo, and American Math Competition (AMC 8). She is continuing these competitions throughout her high school as well. She is ahead in her math courses at school and is going to take AP Calculus AB as a sophomore. Chhavi started volunteering for OMC in March 2021. She currently teaches a Beast Academy class as well as a Counting & Probability class. Right now, Chhavi and two others are working on a 8-week long course for Counting & Probability. Chhavi has done many other extracurriculars at her school including, robotics, science olympiad – and making it to nationals as a 7th grader, National honor society, and HOSA. She has done several types of dances such as ballet when she was little, bollywood dance, and classical dance called Kathak which she has been doing for many years. Also, Chhavi was on a swim team and played competitive chess during elementary and middle school. She has been volunteering at an organization called Ekal Vidyalaya since she was very small to help out kids in rural India get education. Currently, she is doing a Dharma Internship over summer and volunteering at OMC. She is strictly religious and participates in many programs at the Jain Temple. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, making puzzles, watching movies, and traveling.
